Hair Today

When my hair is short, it's the anti-style. I don't have to think, it always looks the same, there are no choices to make. It just is. Long hair is more interesting. But it takes effort. One must think. One must choose. One must act.

Before this current growth experiment, I wore the same basic hair length for at least 25 years. Well. Except for an unfortunate early-90s foray into... well... I'd like to just call it a youthful hair indiscretion. In reality it was a mullet and I did it on purpose. Please, let's all pause for a laugh at my expense.

My hair is now long enough to form a respectable ponytail. A milestone of great import, I became aware of it the moment the necessary stars aligned. Something shook. My inner hair diva has always yearned for a ponytail. The excitement remains palpable.

I find to my mild chagrin wearing a ponytail leads to moderate self-consciousness. Seems my ponytail is an attention whore. Surely I'm not imagining it. She perkily sprouts from the back of my head and announces her presence, singing, "I'm a ponytail! Yes! Yes! Here I am! Look at me! Look at ME!" Bounce. Swing. Bounce! Bounce!

My ponytail may resemble other ponytails, but she has a life all her own. I never felt that way about that other style. Yet I wonder, if like now, I'll look back fifteen years hence and wonder what the fuck I was thinking.

Adorable picture of the younger years!

Funny thing about hair, when mine was very short it was always more work and took far longer in the mornings. The longer it is the less time it seems to take, just dry, spray and go.

My hair is relatively long and I wear it in a ponytail about half the time. I like ponytails. (And they're better than the mullet I sported in the early '90s!)

AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you had a mullet! You look like you should be in a really bad Southern Rock band.

Yeah, I look back on my braids (& ponytail to a lesser degree) in the very same way.

Hair's annoying. I have had really short hair which I hated. Then for a long time I had hair a couple of inches off my shoulders. Now it's halfway down my back. And it's more annoying now to take care of, but I like the way it feels! Maybe shaving it all off would be the answer? No decisions at all to make then.

I am impressed in the patience and determination that was required in order to grow your hair to the 'pony-tail' length. I coulda never done it.

Now what?!

How did I know you were going to mention the mullet? LOL.

You know, I just did the opposite. I've had long hair forever and just cut it off recently and LOVE IT. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!! If you get tired of the ponytail but still wish to keep it long, try a bun. Those are fun! :)

I've always been enamoured of the romance of having long hair. Unfortunately, I've never had the patience to fulfill that particular fantasy.

Just as well, I figure. I am the world's worst hair stylist as it is.

P.S. I do so *love* the youthful pic. :-)

I'm amazed at the resemblance between The Boy and TLF.

Crossing my fingers that TLF ends up as good looking.

I think it's impossible to go for 15 years and look back on your hair style, whatever it was, without wondering, what was I thinking? Fifteen years ago, my hair was short; twenty years before that, I was coming out of the 1960s grow-it-down-to-there-hair phase, and so forth.

My hair crimes have all involved bangs.

Not pretty.

But a ponytail is absolutely essential to happiness in life. You'll never regret a ponytail like you regret a mullet.
