If....

... I blogged about work I'd be typing until my fingers were nothing but bloody little nubs. But since I don't, my fingers are safe and I'm not typing much at all. Instead, I'm adjusting in virtual silence as the swirling emotions about the ch-ch-ch-changes that have been looming on the horizon for months morph into what will become the New Normal.

Normalcy, some say, is overrated.
Yet I crave it.

Don't you?

Cool, a David Bowie reference... I'll try to work one in tomorrow.

As for normalcy... I guess I do crave normalcy in my own odd little way.

In my experience ch-ch-ch-changes in the workplace usually meant MORE work for ME, which I can certainly do without.

While I can and do appreciate variety in some respects, I am, at the same time comforted by the routine.

Normalcy would be welcomed with open arms, yes, she would.

hmm, how cryptic.

what is normal?

On the other hand, my job is all about ch-ch-ch-changes...and normalcy is something to fight over (or rather each person's interpretation thereof!)

Ch-ch-ch-changes make me wary, unless I'm the one doing the changes. A re-org in high-tech companies has, in my experience, meant that things aren't going well, so "let's shake things up and see if we can do better." That happened at two large companies I worked for. Neither exists any more. Glad I baled out before they did!

So, now I work for Univ. of California - well, at least it's more fun, although it doesn't pay so well... No more bonuses, that's fer shure.

I can relate, grasshopper. And you've put it so well. While I deal well with change, chaos and dumbasses, shaken not stirred, give me blinding headaches.

I'm glad your fingers are safe. We'd miss the sound of them typing here.

I actually kind of like the random. But it is unsettling, to be sure.

At one time in my life I craved and thrived on change. Now I'm just happy to have things nice and comfortably settled, normal. Here's hoping that your new normal settles into something comfortable for you.

I've forgotten what 'normal' is supposed to be.

I tend to thrive in chaos, the same old routine quickly bores me and a bored me is not a very good me.

I tend to think like stokley...if things are allowed to get boring, I get antsy...

I vaguely remember normal as it was to me. Only an echo now. I am told a new normal will come as sure as water seeks its own level. Until then I am left a stranger in a strange land.

I fear I have no idea what normal means. -sigh- But then this thought popped in my head: If all the world thinks they are normal, wouldn't you rather be nuts? Okay, I'm a dork. This is my first time commenting on your site. I hope the work stuff gets "normal" again! =)

ch-ch-changes always happen...no matter how we wish they would'nt.

our ultimate skill is how we land on our feet when life is tossed into the air.

good, comfortable shoes....that must be the answer.

:) To the "New Normal"

Words,

Your readers are an interesting lot...

Daavid Bowie references, James Bond references, and Robert A. Heinlein references... How wonderful.

My mom said after she got out of the hospital and recovered that the most important thing in our life is "normal every day living". That is what we all strive for -- though never realize. We take it for granted until it is gone. It's the single most important aspect of our sanity.

Certainly I crave "our" normal - and not just because I cherish your wittle fingers!

Change is inevitable, Darlin'. I admire the grace with which you face such challenges.
