We're growing grass.
Well.
It's actually more than that.
We're crafting a lawn.
A lawn is not just a ragged mishmash of green whatever.
A lawn is an even, lush expanse of pure and glorious green grass.
Soft. Cool underfoot.
Always the perfect shade of green even on a gray day.
Visualize such a lawn.
Oh my, I can already feel it between my toes.
I want it.
It takes a lot of water to grow grass.
It hasn't rained much of late.
So we sprinkle.
Twice a day, every day.
With quasi-religious fervor.
We're growing grass.
It's serious business.
I'm expecting water bills even higher than when The Boy lived at home.
I've never before had occasion to grow grass from seed. I am completely enthralled. We have germination! These blades, thin as thread, stretch confidently upward.
Such a lawn as the one we desire is not a single year project. I'm thinking three years. I'm thinking in three years, with all due diligence, we'll be dancing barefoot in the backyard across our lush green lawn, our toes singing songs of happiness in tune with the landscape around us.
Another exercise in patience.
Can a person have too many?
It feels good to have begun.

Three years? THREE years? Oh no ma'am.
My prediction: Fall, 2008. :)
yay! germination!!
That sounds like serious business! And very exciting business at that. Congratulations on planting roots...literally. :)
grass is good.
it's the sprinkling that prompted me to decide to nix the lawn idea.
congrats & good luck. :)
What is the inspiration?
Have you always lived "without" a grass lawn? Did you have dirt instead?
I'm curious :)
May your feet be soon walking on soft grass!
Wen, I hope you're right. :)
weese, I'm giving you all the credit. It's like you have been out there guiding the hose for us.
Eyes, we've had "grass" but it's mostly weeds. We've never taken the time to properly nurture a quality lawn. The inspiration? Its turn came up on the schedule.
"We're growing grass"....
Am I the only one who was disappointed?
Having had lot of lawns, I admire your chutzpah. Good luck!
However, for myself, I've learned the most valuable word in the grass growing vocabulary: sod.
LOL Kris, sorry to disappoint!
Lori, remember your recent comment about the size of yards out east? Sodding would break our bank!
So do you guys do consulations? Our side yard is beyond hopeless.
Grass!
Words... I am the lawn master! I love the whole lawn culture.
Mrs GF does the flowers and that stuff... but the greass, that belongs to me. Me. Meeeee! Muahahahahahahahaaha.
Oh.
Sorry.
