Time Flies ...

... gently when one is porch sitting.

Wendy and I spent Sunday giving our screened porch a serious spring cleaning. Somewhere under the winter accumulation of dirt and heavy layer of spring pollen lay our refuge, a private place to sit and commune with nature in a decidely suburban manner. A few hours with hose and broom had the place shipshape and inviting again. A place for everything and everything in its place: Wendy beamed with satisfaction, her smile as luminescent as the sun.

Our timing was exquisite. I don't know what we did to deserve it and I don't much care. But the weather we've enjoyed the past few days was designed for quality porch sitting: sunny, clear, cool enough for my favorite sweatshirt yet warm enough for bare feet.

I had the radio tuned to a classic rock station as I sat yesterday. On came the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

Does The Boy remember me singing that to him when he was younger? When he'd ask for something and I'd say "no" and he'd ask again?
"You can't always get what you want.
But if you try sometime you just might find
You get what you need."

Words to live by.
Gold back then.
Apropos now.

Perhaps especially now.

Bliss is enjoying the sun and the weather after a long winter. Glad you were able to do so. Your screen porch sounds like a well deserved sanctuary.

Our weekend was gorgeous, but the rains have come.

As for the song....I think it needs to become a national anthem. Too many people think they are entitled to everything they want, when they want it.

Ooh porch sitting... we have a hammock under our patio. It's fun to wheeee swing gently back and forth while the birds chirp.

Gina - After seeing those legs and feet, can you not now agree with EB that Suzanne is "fucking sexy"? ;p

I'm not even gonna ask why Kmae thinks there's a body of water outside of our porch.

Brings back very fond memories. Thanks!

I agree with cris about the song. I'm hatching a special 'gift' idea for my daughter--the refrain on a tee shirt-hehehe

Yep. Perfection. The words, the resting place, the weather.

It's the little things, yanno?

I have now sung that song to my daughter and my grandson...think a great grandchild will understand the significance? And, quit mentioning spring, we MIGHT GET SNOW TONIGHT!

Why yes...look at those skinny legs. ;)

I think the body of water is the 'Great Grass Lake.'

The River Inez runs through our yard when it rains heavily. But it's not running in those photos. :)

I'm envying your porch sitting weather. We were in draught conditions and I think I wished too hard that it would rain. It's downpoured for two days now -- and the forecast predicts rain as far as the calender shows (like 10 more days).

I think I'm gonna be a drowned rat. I might come join you, barefoot, on the porch. Sounds heavenly!

Yes--that is a great song. We used to drift off to sleep with that great chorus singing...

No screened porch for me--but I did set up the deck furniture. That guaranteed that the temperature fell off the table so I can't sit out there this weekend.
